Zaman dalam bahasa arab secara garis besar terbagi atas dua bagian:
- 1. Bashitah (sederhana)
- 2. Murakkabah (merangkap)
Zaman bashitah terbagi atas tiga bagian:
a. Al-madhi al-muthlak (the past unconditional)
b. Al-hal al-muthlak (the present unconditional tense)
c. Al-mustakbal al-muthlak (the future unconditional tense)
Zaman murakkabah, secara garis besar, terbagi atas tiga bagian:
a. Al-madhi al-muqayyad (the past conditional tense)
Ø Al-madhi al-qarib (the present perfect tense)
Ø Al-madhi al-jazim (the simple past tense)
Ø Al-madhi al-rawa’i (the past continuous tense)
Ø Hikayah al-madhi al-rawa’i (the past perfect tense)
b. Al-hal al-muqayyad (the present conditional tense)
c. Al-mustakbal al-muqayyad (the future conditional tense)
Ø Al-mustakbal al-mu’allaq (the future bound tense)
Ø Al-mustakbal al-rawa’i (the future perfect tense)
Ø Al-mustakbal al-salbi al-ajazim (The future negative tense)
Ø Hikayah al-mustakbal al-rawa’i (the past future perfect tense)
